... yes, it really happened !

in a recent article of mine, suspeckted (who shall henceforth be known as 'the man all women should love', or 'tmawsl' for short), actually expressed a preference for a woman who was pale, clever, interesting, quirky, and occasionally downright freakish over a world-renowned beauty.

now, the choice of a woman who loves acting because she wants to vicariously live the life of a serial killer isn't for every man, i agree. there are men who would worry about this. men who would prefer someone a little 'easier' to understand. someone more reliable. less confronting. more pink. yes, that's it. pinker, and pretty.

yet, in charlize theron vs christina ricci, suspeckteds' verdict was christina. women of the world who are not 6 foot tall and 100 pounds, who are not possessed of a year-round tan, perfect teeth and a bone structure hand sculpted apparently by god himself, you may now officially rejoice.

a clever, well rounded, funny, artistic and, frankly, awesomely nice fellow has chosen us !. the imperfect us of the stubbornly pale complexion and unfashionable independence and opinions. we, of the view that 'electric eyelash curlers' should be a title for a book about female stupidity as opposed to a feminine necessity.

the inherent female dual nature isn't always appealing to men when it makes itself so apparent in an individual woman. the need to boost ones' ego by having a female partner whose attractions are obvious to others is the downfall of many an otherwise decent man. i swear sometimes men feel sorry for me because i lack the motivation to paint and pamper for their viewing pleasure.

but suspeckted doesn't . kudos to you, my friend. what a shame christina doesn't know how lucky she is.

Actually he's not alone... quirky alone is a HUGE selling point there for me.

I'm not sure about the pale thing....but the rest of the traits fit the bill for me....I can't stand a mindless "bimbo" zombie bitch....whoops got carried away...hehe....

the imperfect us of the stubbornly pale complexion and unfashionable independence and opinions

as an occasionally professional advocate of visual imperfection, i hope youre using the term in its most positive and laudatory sense as regards physical aesthetics.  a woman's  independence and opinions are unfashionable only to those who are prisoners of fear.  casting theron as aileen wuornos was appropriate only in that it was consistent with the abuse inflicted upon wuornos throughout her life.

oh, i am kingbee. you got it !.

a woman's independence and opinions are unfashionable only to those who are prisoners of fear

king, tell me, how did you survive this world relatively intact as you have ?

casting theron as aileen wuornos was appropriate only in that it was consistent with the abuse inflicted upon wuornos throughout her life.

if you're talking the effect of 'realism', and relevance to, yes. i agree with you. but i always do. thankyou for adding this

(ps: king, it always feels strange to say stuff like that at 3.30pm on a sunny afternoon. i've never gotten used to it. it belongs in smoky bars or cafes or something)

I didn't even know that electric eyelash curlers existed. Somehow this knowledge doesn't rock my world...

This is greatly affirming, as I too am pale (although blonde and freckled), opinionated, and independent. However, this comes with it's own set of problems. My mother tells me I'm intimidating... so find me a man who isn't so easily frightened!!

Mig,

I have dated both....I would DEFINATELY rather spend my time with a woman who is "less than perfect" by societies standards. I would take wit, charm, intelligence, and inner beauty over long legs and a big pair of......eyes? The problem with most pretty women is they are so obsessed with being pretty they pay no attention to anything else. Which makes them as interesting as a treestump to me

You can only thump like bunnies for so long...I would rather do it with someone who i can talk to, care about, and respect afterwards

mig: I am also a fair-skinned person, and for a long time I allowed myself to believe that the fact that I didn't have a dark bronze tan meant that I was not attractive. It has been a real self-esteem issue for me. While my husband was away at basic training about a year ago, I went to a tanning salon every single day and I was actually able to get a "real" tan (I never really get tan in the sun . . . I might get more "color" but never tan). I was so excited . . . I even tanned his initials onto my skin with a little paper cut-out I made. But when I finally got to see him again, he didn't really care about the tan at all. I had wasted hundreds of dollars and many, many hours trying to become some "ideal" woman, and he was less interested in my tan and more interested in what the kids and I had been up to while he was away. Besides . . . if I'd kept it up, I'd look like an old leather bag by the time I'm 40 Who needs a tan?

Just say no to tanning. Pale is good. Pale is berry berry good!

ooooh, clever girls are scary, melinda

that's exactly the kind of answer i like, thatoneguyinslc. bring it on !

I would take wit, charm, intelligence, and inner beauty over long legs and a big pair of......eyes?

hehe 'eyes'. nice save

The problem with most pretty women is they are so obsessed with being pretty they pay no attention to anything else. Which makes them as interesting as a treestump to me

exactly. and the problem with some men is that they settle for that !. but not you !.

You can only thump like bunnies for so long...I would rather do it with someone who i can talk to, care about, and respect afterwards

'thump like bunnies' !. how fabulous. and how true. one can only do that for so long before some type of communication is required.

mig: I am also a fair-skinned person, and for a long time I allowed myself to believe that the fact that I didn't have a dark bronze tan meant that I was not attractive. It has been a real self-esteem issue for me

texas wahine, i know exactly how you feel. i live in australia, the land of beaches, sun and surf. i'm almost viewed as a freak and it took me along time to accept myself, too.

But when I finally got to see him again, he didn't really care about the tan at all. I had wasted hundreds of dollars and many, many hours trying to become some "ideal" woman, and he was less interested in my tan and more interested in what the kids and I had been up to while he was away

he was only ever interested in the real you. but you, like me, you used to think he might like you a bit better if you just did this or fixed that.

Besides . . . if I'd kept it up, I'd look like an old leather bag by the time I'm 40 Who needs a tan?

exactly, texas wahine. i've already had skin cancer and i can tell you, it's not worth it !

Just say no to tanning. Pale is good. Pale is berry berry good!

thankyou, historyishere. you fabulous man, you. we all love you too !

Mig, though my ego is thrilled by the idea of having a blog devoted to some comment I made I think I do need to clarify a couple things. Though I would like to claim that I have a very enlightened view of female attractiveness I don't think Ricci is a good example of such. Despite her height, she very much embodies the mold of the stereotypically ideal woman. This is partially the reason that I "used to think Christian Ricci was cute." If I had a celebrity crush it would most likely be Jennifer Connelly, but that's kind of my point. Only if I would HAVE to choose one. I've always thought the little imperfections in the women generous enough to share their time with me made them more attractive and made me feel more comfortable with my own. What didn't make them attractive was when some would constantly draw attention to the fact that they thought they were imperfections themselves.

As a side note, a local rapper here from Minneapolis teamed up with a guy from the Def Jux label and maybe an entire album devoted to Ricci called Felt. I haven't heard it yet but it won some "weirdest hip-hop album" award.

thanks for the discussion though,
suspeckted

*high fives for all

lovely ... do go ahead

Though I would like to claim that I have a very enlightened view of female attractiveness I don't think Ricci is a good example of such. Despite her height, she very much embodies the mold of the stereotypically ideal woman

indeed, suspeckted. perhaps i should have made mention of the fact that you expressed a past preference for christina ricci. i just got soooo excited, you know !. i should have mentioned that you had changed your opinions as you got older.

This is partially the reason that I "used to think Christian Ricci was cute."

hehe, yes. i just blabbed on about that above there

I've always thought the little imperfections in the women generous enough to share their time with me made them more attractive and made me feel more comfortable with my own.

a lovely sentiment, suspeckted

What didn't make them attractive was when some would constantly draw attention to the fact that they thought they were imperfections themselves.

exactly. paranoia about 'flaws' is so unattractive. i almost flaunt mine, now. i can't be bothered to be anything less than i really am for the sake of male attention.

thanks for the discussion though,

Just thought I'd mention that this comment made me at 5am.
