... issues and tissues with a touch of the spicy from the spirit hag ...

it's true. i couldn't care less what you believe. or believe in. any of you. because chances are i will respect, accept, and try to understand you regardless of what you do or don't "believe".

with the obvious exceptions of ALL socially intolerable "beliefs" (racial supremacy being one of many examples), if you are enriched by something i can't fathom, then i will stand aside with every courtesy and let you get on with your thing.

i stand firm in everything i believe, yet i am long past viewing it as my personal responsibility to challenge anybody who dares oppose the views i spent 34 years creating. i credit others with having made a similar journey of their own, with their beliefs being formed in much the same way as mine were, regardless of their eventual conclusion.

i don't mind if you worship an egg whisk. you can believe that a master race of giant dung beetles are preparing to invade us for all i care. sure, that may not make you the most appealing of dinner guests, but the fact remains that you are just loving those dung beetles. ok, they mean a lot more to you than they do to me. but so what if i don't understand why ? do i have to ? am i vain enough to think that i should "set you straight" ? frankly, no. i'm not.

because you got to your own conclusions somehow. and i just don't know what you know. i can't. and unless i can borrow your entire life experience for a while there is no way i can ever know. i can never walk around inside your consciousness. so, even if you do talk to people that aren't there, how can i know for sure that your mind isn't simply going somewhere mine cannot ? who am i to try and take away your hope by telling you that you're wrong ?.

you may very well be right. how would i know ?.

most anything worth believing in brings it's own set of unique problems and understandings. were it illegal to make derisive remarks on something we know little of, most all of us would be languishing behind bars right now, wishing we had bitten our collective tongues.

yet, as the only repercussion for "belief-bashing" is the pain caused to the target, it is seen as acceptable, desirable even. "belief-bashing" in one form is just an attempt to "convert" non-believers by trying to ram a highly-personalised life view down the collective throats of a highly-individual population with no respect for the beliefs that they may already have. another is by "bashing" the views or beliefs of another person, either by insulting their intelligence for thinking such "crap", or by attacking their belief system itself directly.

i have no interest in insulting anyone for what they think. and if i do, i deserve everything i get if there is a backlash.

so, whilst your penchant for idolising kitchen utensils probably won't result in me calling you for a chat anytime soon, it won't result in me calling you names, either.

Just one of the many things I admire about you. How did you get to be so wise at only 34? I feel so old.
on Jun 04, 2004
Very well put.

i don't mind if you worship an egg whisk.

I almost spit out my coffee on this one.

While there are some aspects and considerations of 'trying to convert' someone that involve love and sincere concern, I understand exactly what you are saying and applaude you for it. A very well presented piece.

Respect Miggy.

People can beleive what they want, but they must believe in themselves first.

How can anyone not admire you for your stance?

BAM!!!

That was an excellent article, and I agreed with all you said! I have my own opinions, and though I am willing to share them I don't wish to force them down anyones throats, you should treat others how you wish to be treated yourself and this includes respecting their opinions like you would like yours to be respected. Nice piece of writing!

this really has not much to do with your article but it reminded me of "jews for jesus" which i find almost as hilarious as your article. the idea of jews for jesus is like jews for pork. it kind of goes against what defines us (myself being a jew, but i eat pork...deal with it). jews for jesus is a long was of saying "christian". heh

told you it had nothing to do iwth your article. oh, here's something. im not tolerate of belief systems. not because of the belief part but the system. belief should be an inkling not a structure.

kind of like THAT was just a long way of saying "i disagree but would like to use an analogy to let you down easy ?"

told you it had nothing to do iwth your article

yes, but anybody who doesn't know you will misread that as nastiness instead of understanding that you chose "jews for pork" as a funny name like my "belief bashers". never mind. i know how clever you are hehe

Started reading and then BAM! Am now raging addict. God damn not again! As if i don't spend enough time on this thing when I should be sleeping. I can't imagine the long term damage, but it was totally worth it. Especially for that Ricki Lake article. IT's too damn early to laugh that hard..This one isn't bad either...

It's not insomnia, its just not-wasting-my-time.

I can, however, be a legendary waster of time when it suits my lack of purpose.

Ah too late to sleep now, if i did i fear i may slip into a coma. Plus all my dreams would involve strange Mexican looking men trying to sell me dogs on acid. Reality at least, lacks Mexicans.

marco, i wouldn't mind if you didn't arrive at my house from your "city life" four times a year looking like you've been attempting the world record on staying awake

"miiiig, i'm so tired. we'll talk after my nap"

uh-huh. last time, you slept for THREE DAYS you big poopie. i was reduced to dancing around outside your bedroom door trying to make a lot of incidental "noise" in the vain hope of rousing you from your slumber. AND when i finally got you outside you spent the whole car trip yelling at me over the noise of the kombi about how i'm not "confrontational" enough and waste my mind

hehe. i miss you !

at least they would be dreams, dyl ... unlike mr "ultimate weird life" there
