... issues and tissues with a touch of the spicy from the spirit hag ...

i have the strength of sixty men, i'm over ten feet tall
i'm footed, though i never move, it's said that i can fall

in grand ballrooms i can be seen holding up affairs
and i can bring the house down if i crack up near the stairs

... what am i ?

if you know the solution to this riddle, please make me very happy by posting it ... but if you do post the answer, you must post the next riddle to be guessed by the next successful person, and so on. or so i hope.

course, the whole thing could get ignored, too. how embarrasing that would be. hehe. oh, well ... the risks one will take in order to achieve linguistic banter these days apparently know no bounds !!!. somebody guess, dammit

..................................................

Because cigars cannot be entirely smoked, a hobo who collects cigar butts can make a cigar to smoke out of every 5 butts that he finds. Today, he has collected 25 cigar butts. How many cigars will he be able to smoke?

and i have a NEW ONE:

you have a rooster, a fox, and a bag of grain. you must transport each of them to a nearby island via a rowboat. you may carry only one thing at a time. the catch: the rooster will eat the grain and the fox will eat the rooster, so you cannot leave those two things together on either shore. you may make as many trips as you want, and there is a solution.how do you safely transport them all taking only one thing at a time ?

(i think this one is old, but it annoyed me for days ! .. hope y'all don't know it right away !)

Coincidentally I found this riddle tonight while cleaning out my inbox:

Schwarzenegger has a big one
Michael J. Fox has a small one
Madonna doesn't have one
The Pope has one but doesn't use his
Clinton uses his all the time
Mickey Mouse has an unusual one
Liberace never used his on women
Jerry Seinfeld is very, very proud of his.
Cher claims that she took on 3
We never saw Lucy use Desi's
What is it?

on Jun 23, 2004
Ok, you take the rooster across, go back and get the fox, take the fox over, you then take the rooster back, leave it at the other shore and take the grain across, go back and get the rooster again. Did that make sense?

Take rooster. Leave rooster on island.
Take fox. Leave fox on island -- Pick up rooster and return him to shore. (Island = fox)
Take grain (leave rooster). Leave grain on Island. (Island = fox, grain)
Take rooster. Island now has you, rooster, grain, and fox.

Oh, that's easy...first you take the rooster, and then come back and get the grain. Go back to the island pick up the rooster and put down the grain. Go to the shore get the fox and put down the rooster. put the fox on the island and then go and get the rooster...there ya go!

is innuendo back in fashion ?

It's called misdirection. Like a magic trick, the answer isn't what you think but is obvious once you know what it is. (Don't blame me, I just opened the rogue email. )

and gene, i have to go to sleep, it's 2am .... you're in charge of the riddle thread. see you in 8 hours

It's almost 9 A.M. here and I haven't been to sleep yet, so they'll have to handle it on their own.

The answer to Smartaz' riddle is:
A Last Name.

Another math-based puzzle:

There are 4 women who want to cross a bridge. They all begin on the same side. You have 17 minutes to get all of them across to the other side. It is night. There is one flashlight. A maximum of two people can cross at one time. Any party who crosses, either 1 or 2 people, must have the flashlight with them. The flashlight must be walked back and forth, it cannot be thrown, etc. Each woman walks at a different speed. A pair must walk together at the rate of the slower woman's pace.

Woman 1: 1 minute to cross
Woman 2: 2 minutes to cross
Woman 3: 5 minutes to cross
Woman 4: 10 minutes to cross

For example if Woman 1 and Woman 4 walk across first, 10 minutes have elapsed when they get to the other side of the bridge. If Woman 4 then returns with the flashlight, a total of 20 minutes have passed and you have failed the mission.

For a true riddle, try this one:

A hundred and one
divided by fifty, followed by nothing:
one of nine.
