I can't help but notice that spiritual and talented are the two most common answers, with one materialistic (you marvelouslly honest person) and two driven out of ten responses. Given a small sample, fair enough, we could get a fairly accurate and honest response from the people above. What strikes me as being unusual is that while they are the two most consistent choices, spiritualism (as i see it, as a search for transcendence, a betterment of our condition here, not after) is a rare quality that I (and this is anecdotal) have never truely encountered, even within the overtly religious (a vast difference between the two). As far as talent and drive. We have obviously chosen the jewel of the two and we all too often end up with people who possess neither. I believe that, maybe, 10% of the population have either trait, with those with talent lagging far behind the other.

I think that, by far, the hardest thing for intelligent, compassionate people to do, is to find the beautiful in people who possess none of these qualities, these mirages that plague the magazine racks and rom-com scenarios. To achieve the impossible, to, perhaps, achieve the spiritual, is to find beauty in oursleves, even though we are neither successfully materialistic, tranquilly spiritual, insanely driven or joyously (maybe grievously) talented.

Long have i suspected that class warfare has operated the lines inherent in these two questions - the upper classes never believing, even with evidence shoved up their pertly up-turned noses, that the working class could be possessed of talent, drive or spiritualism, only a crass materialism that revolves around schooners of beer and their daily pack of fags (cigarettes to the uninitiated). This could explain why I am so distrustful of these last two questions, coming from a staunchly working class background.

Sorry about the rant, but i enjoyed the questions (Mig, how can one be so socially aware while being so socially disconnected. More importantly how can one be so frightfully clever) and their responses. I couldn't answer the questions because my perfect women just doesn't live here, in between the rock and the hard place. I have to say that i prefer none of these options, they mean nothing in and of themselves. Here, if anywhere, resides a philosophical conundrum. What a wonderful puzzle

Dear God. I'm so sorry. I had no idea that comment was that long.

And Mig. I did read Interview... sorry i didn't comment. That needs to be on paper, tangible and warm, beautiful in its isolation. I loved it, and it only confirms, reaffirms, everything i have ever known and adored about you.

5. driven - this is the one area where I chose a complete foil. I consider myself to be marginally talented, but have seen ample evidence that even marginally talented individuals, marketed correctly, can be successful in this day and age. I just need someone to give me a kick in the arse sometimes.

gideon, i hear you on that one. you know, it never ceases to amaze me at how such a vast array of people have such similar tastes and desires. when i'm feeling up to it, i might go back and find some (fictional) "perfect matches" from those answers. now THAT would be interesting. and i have to dob myself in soon, too

Mig, how can one be so socially aware while being so socially disconnected.

marco, i think it attacks me by osmosis when i go outside ... i inhale all these social conscience particles. the effect lasts as long as it takes the world to beat me up again

hey, thanks. but you know, i'm so unhappy that i offended gene that i've actually lost all heart for this friday five.

I think her chiding was both good natured and gentle, and im sure she didnt intend to hurt your feelings

thanks, little_whip. it was. i have so much respect for gene that, like i said, i feel quite ashamed about that comment. i just should have thought a bit harder i guess. but thankyou for re-iterating my intentions, as you say, it was not deliberate.

I chose spiritual over materialist, because, frankly, no woman who is material would be happy for a long time with me. Also because my wife is one of the most spiritual women I know, who has put our family above any quest for money, fame, cars, what have you.

ma·te·ri·al·ism
n.
1. Philosophy. The theory that physical matter is the only reality and that everything, including thought, feeling, mind, and will, can be explained in terms of matter and physical phenomena.
2. The theory or attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life.
3. A great or excessive regard for worldly concerns.

I just want to point out that my choice of materialism was based on definition 1, and that 2 and 3 are not important to me (as might be derived from my answer about talent/drive). Thanks for the honesty remark... there are few compliments I consider to be greater.

gideon, it's wonderful to see how much you value that quality in your wife. i like to think that my husband may feel the same, despite his grumbling and moaning heh

thanks for all of your input, it's so appreciated, i'm very glad you've joined ju

cs guy, that's a good point. you chose materialism based on it's meaning as above, and not in any monetary way. that does make it more interesting. thanks for clarifying that.

greywar, i was waiting for someone to do this .. heh ... you have the same list as me, with only one difference. i want to say "hey everyone try and guess !", but that might earn me an embarrased silence ... but i'll do it anyway. i'm dumb like that.
