this week, we do "the lesser of two evils". put yourself in the five situations below. none of them have a completely desirable outcome, as all of them involve personal compromise. as always, these are extremes, and in choosing one you forfeit the other.

so, would you rather be ...

1/ extremely unattractive or exceptionally unintelligent ?

2/ totally blind or completely deaf ?

3/ unhappily in love or miserably lonely ?

4/ wildly controversial or utterly acceptable ?

5/ world famous or critically acclaimed ?

Vanessa where have you been? You've been scarce lately, like me. It's good to see that you're still posting friday fives though I look forward to them . Anyways here's the answers from my perspective.

1. Extremely unattractive. A fear of mine is to lose intellect and not question the things I question today. I couldn't imagine not understanding the things that interest me so much now.

2. Completely deaf. Although I would be losing such great things as music and the ability to hear anyone say something to me anytime, I could never lose my vision though because in silence I can still enjoy beauty.

3.Miserably lonely. I would rather be single and have time to do anything I want than to be in a relationship where I would also be unhappy and I couldn't do whatever I wanted. It also allows me to keep looking for the person that will make me happy.

4.Controversial. It's better to make an impression than none at all.

5.Critically acclaimed. I would rather be critically acclaimed because then I know that even if I receive no recognition whatever I have accomplished was truly appreciated by those that really care.

2. Completely deaf. I have glaucoma the thought of blindness suffocates me.
3. These are one and the same to me, no difference. I am miserably in love and it's made me feel miserably lonely.

1/ extremely unattractive or exceptionally unintelligent ? Extremely unattractive, i value intelligence over attractiveness anyday.

2/ totally blind or completely deaf ? Deaf...as much as i would hate not being able to listen to music anymore, i honestly would not know what to do if i could no longer read...but on the other hand i love to talk and carry on coversations and whatnot and not being able to hear would severly compromise this...i don't know...i think i still have to go with deaf.

3/ unhappily in love or miserably lonely ? miserably lonely, you can develop an exit strategy for that.

4/ wildly controversial or utterly acceptable ? Wildly controversial. If i were utterly acceptable i think it would be indicative of having no outstanding personality traits and i probably wouldn't stand for much

5/ world famous or critically acclaimed ? Critically acclaimed, i would much rather have someone who is an expert in whatever i was being acclaimed for appreciate what i am doing than a world full of people who probably don't know the first thing about it.

I love music so much, but I think I could love poetry just as much if I were more self-diciplined. I would have to say I'd rather be completely deaf. I think I would feel so totally lost without my sight.

This is a good question. I think I'd rather be miserably lonely, though... because I don't think I'd be that horribly lonely. Although if we could work through our problems eventually I guess I'd rather be unhappily in love

I couldn't stand to be anything but wildly controversial!

5/ world famous or critically acclaimed ?
Hmm... depends on what my accoplishments would be. I guess critically acclaimed, though.

i'd rather be unnattrractive than stupid

i'd rather be deaf than blind

i'd rather be unhappily in love than lonely

i'd rather be wildly controversial than acceptable

i'd rather be critically acclaimed than world famous

While many blind people are fairly independent, there are still many things that are simply impossible for them to do, like driving, and that alone hinders one's independence greatly

exactly. the thought of losing my sight terrifies me too. i always feel like i need to see faces. and eyes especially.

Besides, id never be "miserably" lonely because im quite good at entertaining myself, and i love my dogs!

sabrina, we have 2 dogs, and sometimes i think if something happened to hubby i'd just live with them and probably not marry again, so i know how you feel
