... it's over when you think it is

this is life. which means somebody is always going to lose. make sure it's not you .

lao tzu on life:

on greed ... you leave your cow and you run after a snake for meat

on integrity ... what you do in black hair you will eat in white hair

on looking for “signs” ... a night without roosters will still end

on discretion ... where there are many chickens, do not spill maize

on bragging ... the escaped snake is always the one that the hunter says “filled a basket”

on inattention ... a person who roasts a locust does not blink !

on fear ... one does not forego sleeping because of the possibility of nightmares

on suspicion ... when a wild pig walks in the daytime, something has caused it to leave its hiding place

on misplaced aggression ... only a silly hen fights with a mushroom!

(all quotes by lao tzu, the 6th century chinese philosopher widely accredited as the founder of taoism)

Good post, Mig.

>>where there are many chickens, do not spill maize

Reminds me of an incident when I was touring in Australia, where a tourist was feeding emus. She bought this whole bag of feed and foolishly had the whole thing out in her hand. The emus saw it, got excited and then, all with their long necks and beaks came at her. She panicked and dropped the whole thing. There was feed all over the ground and the emus crowded round and had a feast.

Where there are many emus, do not show a bag of feed.

i have seen this happen, too raven. it is often the highlight of my otherwise monotonous visits to the zoo with the 'visitor of the week' hehe

I didn't know you were a Taoist, Miggy!  I read and re-read 'Tao Te Jing' many, many times.  Tzu's 'The Art Of War' is a good follow on to that...and the 'Tao of Pooh' and 'Te of Piglet' are, despite their childish sounding titles, very good.

i didn't know you were, either, dharma !. i also found out that jeremyg lives by taoism, and i recently showed some taoism stuff to muggaz and he was, as you know, instantly hooked. it seems that there are more people living this way than we think.

oh dharma, i agree, 'the art of war' is probably the single most important book i ever read. and the 'tao of pooh and piglet' is an great way to think of taoism as the relationship of the things that happen 'bewteen' us. i'm so glad you left this comment

I've been to Australia twice. The first time was four years ago, I was in Perth and with a group of friends, travelled down the west coast to Albany. We visited a cave and also stayed in a log cabin near a wood mill. We also had chance to take a one day trip from Perth to see The Pinnacles.

Second time was just last year, I was in Queensland for three week holiday and to visit a friend who lives near the Sunshine Coast. We went down to Canberra together and then travelled back up to Brisbane via rented car. I saw the Blue Mountains, Western Plains Zoo and even visited a sheep farm. We also drove through a few charming little towns on our way to these places. I really enjoyed myself. Absolutely loved it. Definetly would like to return someday and see other parts of Australia.
