... i'm far too whiny to be a boy !
Published on August 14, 2004 By mignuna In Blogging

hello, my name is miggy, and i am a girl.

whilst that may not be news to some of you, it has come to my attention that we have a spate of female ju users whose screen names have caused other ju users to call them 'bro', 'mate', 'dude' or (my very own personal favourite) 'that mignuna guy".

whilst recently commenting in a blog by 'shadesofgrey', i noticed a similar phenomenon. shades crafted a very intelligent point, and it made everyone assume she was a man !. i mentioned this in my comment to her, and was rewarded by her response that maybe she should "change my name to shadesofpink" !.

and the trend continues. the lovely new blogger 'ravenblack' was clever enough to be confused for a man by none other than sal and myself !.

and the fact that i habitually end the majority of my comments with typed 'kissies' has probably been frankly scary for some of the male users on ju. i imagine a reaction something like this: "yuck. some guy named mignuna just said i was lovely in my blog and left me some kisses. i think he's hitting on me. ewwwwwww !"

so chickies, if you are tired of being called a boy for exercising your babelicious brain, come forward and declare your er, girliness. or something. and shades, don't worry about changing your screen name anytime soon. we can just keep calling each other 'bro'. i'm kind of getting used to it, anyway

Well I am just as guilty of neglecting the blogs of those I do appreciate and since I'm down to just one or two blogs a week myself I tend to get way behind

suspeckted, with respect, yours is the type of work that can't really be 'churned out' like my blog can. i rarely write poetry these days because of the sheer amount of thought and time that goes into it, so i actually think that one or two blogs a week is quite a prolific output for a 'poetry' blog, particularly considering the high quality of your work

Despite yours and marco's praise I'm glad I don't get 50 comments per poem because then I probably would feel much more compelled to share the love. But for now I'll just share it with you and a few others...and no complainin' here.

i'm very pleased to be one of the people you share your work with. i always have to look for your blogs as we never seem to be here at the same time, and i'm always pleased when i find a new one. (but i do get tempted to 'yell from the rooftops' about your work. you'll have to excuse me hehe).

It made me wonder if you were choosing to give up your ambiguity on purpose or if you just wanted to put out your real name in JU land.

actually, i didn't want my real name in ju land, but i had a (very mild) incident where a male thought i was a man who was making homosexual advances to him with my 'kissies' and the tone of my comments. it made me laugh my ass off, but i also thought i should use my name after my comments if i wasn't certain.

NICE! Most action I've gotten all weekend

this is further proof that the world is full of silly women

...and ok, high fives it is

[DylanZimmerman said:] Yknow..I don't think I've been accused of being a guy...Weird.

Well, Dyl, I might never have accused you of it, but I assumed it of you for quite a while. "Dylan" to me is not a gender-neutral name but a male name.
I was, happily, disabused of the notion before I ever had an opportunity to be publicly mistaken.

Ok, this is the first time I'm happy that something got spammed, cause I totally missed this the first time (however, I still think the spammer should go to hell!).

Yes, I have had the misfortune, more than once, to be mistaken as a guy. I'm beginning to take it as a backhanded compliment--like the guy who told me it was a good thing I'm pretty cause I wasn't going to get by on my brains... people amuse me!

Hi, my name is little-whip, and i have a vagina.

sabrina, i have one too !!!! yay ! *falls off chair laughing*

Im often mistaken for a male simply because i tend to be fairly aggressive in my writings, and people constantly tell me i have balls....(checks crotch, nope, not yet)

indeed, sabrina. i wonder what the female equivalent of 'putting your balls on the line' would be ?. putting your breasts on the line, perhaps ?. (ew. that just sounds like doing laundry or something). perhaps putting your ovum on the line ?. doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it ?

i thoroughly agree with you, shades. on both counts !

i adored your comment about 'shades of pink' !. i'm so glad you got to read this, shades, as your humour was what set the whole thing going !

Well i got mistaken for a guy too once on someone's article about insurance. I dont know how they did that with a name as island_girl (emphasize on girl...)

Mignuna i always assumed you were a girl but for the wrong reasons. Mignuna reminded me of "mignone" which means cute in french and i thought maybe mignuna was italian, and since it ended with an "a" i could only assume you were a "cute girl". Welcome to the depths of my mind.................................

With a name like Floozie, I doubt anybody has ever mistaken me for a man!

Shades - I don't know why, but something about your writing makes me think that you're a guy - a very cool one at that - but a guy all the same. I have to keep reminding myself that you're actually one of those rare and incredibly cool chicks who are able to get their point across without having to make reference to their gender, unless necessary. Wish I could be like that!

Lol I missed this one! My nick is simply generic. I am male.

Interesting.. one or two I thought you ladies were male.

Thanks for the compliment , Suz. I find it interesting to hear how other people perceive my writing--I often think I sound like a whiney, prissy girl.
