... issues and tissues with a touch of the spicy from the spirit hag ...

We’ve all done it: ‘covered’ for a friend or workmate in a tight situation by stretching the truth a little. Most of us would see no real harm in telling the boss that a co-worker was ‘in a meeting’ when they were actually sniveling in the loo because they got dumped.

We’re all human.

Yet there are times when even the most devoted friend would rather not be asked to ‘cover’ for an activity that they wanted no part of, such as providing an alibi for an affair or a crime.  So, imagine if you could do (or be) whatever you wanted, and you were guaranteed a ‘watertight’ alibi ... would you alter your behaviour at all ?.

Want to sneak around behind your partners’ back and say you're ‘working late’ ?.  Like to pretend you have a high powered job to impress the opposite sex ?. Want to get out of events you’re dreading or skip work with impunity ? ... go for it.

Alibi Network will provide, for a fee, services such as: an ‘urgent phone call’ to free you from a boring meeting, a 24-hour ‘hotel reception’ service to allow you to pretend you’re away on business, or a ‘job offer’ to convince your employer that you’re in demand and deserve that raise.

Alibi Network allows you to choose the appropriate ‘situation’ for your needs, and then provides an alibi for your dilemma. Their ‘rescue call service’ ensures you’ll be ‘disturbed’ by an ‘urgent’ call to get you out of almost anything, their ‘call in sick’ service ensures your employer is contacted locally (even if you are nowhere nearby), and their ‘private shopping’ service means no more illicit love trinkets or hotel bills on your private accounts.

Yes, it seems that these days, money can buy you time. Or the truth. Or peace of mind. Or a promotion. Or damn near anything else you’ve ever wanted. And for the record, I’m not sure I know how I feel about this.

On the one hand, it’s certain to be a moneymaker. The folks that dreamed this up have tapped into the almost limitless well of human bad behaviour and found a way to make a living out of it. People will always do bad things and then lie about it. The market in human evil will never dry up. In fact, if this website if the self-fulfilling prophecy it looks like, things may be about to get even worse.

On the other hand, any business that relies solely on deceit can’t be doing the world many favours in terms of human progress. It’s a sad state of affairs (pardon the pun) when our wicked ways begin to spawn industries that not only cater to, but actively encourage our dishonesty.

Behaving better could be one solution, but it seems we no longer need to. Most of the misery in lying stems from being found out. Remove that and it’s associated guilt, and what do you have ?. Impunity.  Yet, it’s not like I’m surprised such a service exists (the only surprising thing about it is that nobody thought of it earlier).

As in most things, judging for yourself is the best way, and I’d welcome any input. The Alibi Network website can be found here: Link

With all the lawyers in the world today you're surprised someone actually comes right out and says "we'll lie for you for a fee"?

I'm a capitalist at heart, and human nature being what it is, I don't see this sort of thing as an instrument of encouragement more than a device to exploit that nature.

sabrina, i'm glad you read this, i was hoping for your views. i try SO hard to believe the best of the human race *sigh*, but i realise that this 'service' only exists because of the need for it. in my saying this encourages such behaviour, i stand guilty of trying to believe that we require any encouragement *sigh again*. my own husband just said that he thinks it's an amazing idea and they'll be rich in no time. (he also said 'what a cunning stunt'. bwaaa haaa !).

I'd have agree with mignuna on this; I see it as being clearly an encouragement to immoral behavior. "Want to get away with something? We'll help!" As such, I find it to be morally reprehensible. It's true, many people do not need any encouragement to be slimy bastards, but by making it easier for anybody to be a slimy bastard, it seems pretty much unavoidable that more people will indeed become slimy bastards. Which is not what the world really needs.

Wow, I too had heard about this but thought it was a joke of some kind. I can't believe people will actually pay to avoid the truth. Oh yeah, now I could say something about the decay of morals in society but I don't want to go to work tomorrow so I... erm...

This service is merely taking the place of friends and secretaries that have been doing this for years for FREE! People have been avoiding the truth since the beginning of time. It is about time someone found a way to make some money from it!
