This week, we're doing an easy one !. Your past, both recent and distant ...       1/     Where are your ancestors from ?     2/     What have you lost lately ?     3/     When did you last have a vacation ?     4/     What was your most recent dream about ?     5/     Which song is stuck in ...

This week, we’re going to move to another planet and begin a JU master-race.   For the sake of the exercise, we can assume that: (a) our families, partners, and pets are with us (without needing to be listed), and, (  we have adequate wildlife, plantlife, water, fuel, food, soil, light, power and shelter.   Make your Martian migration list here. What (who !) will you be taking with you ?. Choose from these ...     1/ &...

This week, let's go back in time ... (again !). After all, everybody loves a hero, right ? ...   1/ Did you have a childhood 'favourite' superhero or cartoon character ? 2/ Did you ever dress up as, or act out the antics of, your hero ? 3/ Do you have a 'real life' hero today ? 4/ Which superhero or cartoon character most closely resembles you ? 5/ Which superhero or cartoon character would you rather be , if you could choose any ?  ...

This week, you can take 5 'things' from anywhere in the world and make them your own. T hey must be actual 'things' and not money or spirituality-related 'issues'. (Although you can ask for thing/s you want to on-sell). You can have a building. You can have a person. You can even have a country if you like. Whatever you want that laws, or money, or logistics have so far made impossible, it's now yours. S o, what in the world will you choose...

This week, we're going back to school. *Sigh*. Like it or hate it (or, in my case, utterly despise it), we’ve all been there. No matter who we ultimately turned out to be, our young years were all the same: full of crushes, awkward moments, and events both momentous and minor that began to shape the adult we would become. So, were your schooldays filled with cheerful, childish, laughter, uneventful education and sugar-sweet dreams of the future ? ... or were you a heinou...

It's confession time, people . This week we're going to dig deep into the dark, dingy litle recesses of your brain, to uncover the scary, sordid, salicious little secrets that you keep tucked away. Well, something like that, anyway. If you're as old and boring as I am, I suggest you make something up. (Actually, my answer to all five this week is yes !.) Have you ever ... 1/ Been arrested ? 2/ Punched anyone ? 3/ 'Lost it' in public...

I am horrified to admit, gentle reader, that, last night, while I was supposed to be posting the "Friday Five", I was actually at the Plantation Hotel watching my friends' band and behaving in a rather undignified manner !. I should explain that I avoid alcohol for two main reasons. One being that it tends to, err, intensify my personality. (ie: I begin to say even more things that I should only think ), and the other being that drinking just does not seem to agree with my body. Alcoh...

Drugs, both for use, and as a topic of discussion, seem to be everywhere at the moment. There is such controversy over so many different drugs, and in particular the consequences these drugs have on the worlds' young people. It's easy to say that "drugs should be banned". Yet the term "drug", like it or not, is a definition that encompasses many substances. So who draws the line, and where ?. Well for one week only, you do ! ... you, on drugs ... 1/ What do you consid...

This week, we are about to be stranded on a deserted tropical island !. Oh no !. ( Thanks Sabrina for another great idea ). For the purposes of the exercise, (ie: to get at what we each really 'can't live without'), we will assume that the island has ' the basics' by way of plant life (including fruit trees), animal life, and adequate water. What 5 items/things would you take with you, and why ?.

we are born crying, wrinkly, naked, incontinent, bald, toothless, and helpless. it’s just cute then. we die in pretty much that exact same state. yet those who had to see us ‘whole’ find this change much harder to face than our ‘blossoming’. we humans are odd creatures. we spend much of our allotted lifetime concerned with something we have no control over: getting older. we may think we fear death itself, but deep down, i’m sure that’s not all of it. perhaps we would rather...

this week in friday five, you have just been elected world leader, and everybody has to do what you say. hooray !. now, as we all know, the world is a mess, and since you are now in charge of cleaning it all up, you'd better get your laws and priorities straight. tomorrow, it's day one of your world leadership, and a huge press conference will await your answers to the following burning questions ... 1/ what type of salary package and benefits will you be granting your...

this is life . which means somebody is always going to lose. make sure it's not you . lao tzu on life: on greed ... you leave your cow and you run after a snake for meat on integrity ... what you do in black hair you will eat in white hair on looking for “signs” ... a night without roosters will still end on discretion ... where there are many chickens, do not spill maize on bragging ... the escaped snake is always the one that the hunter sa...

ok, to distract us from the more serious goings-on, this 'friday five' will be a way for us to dream about who we might have 'been' once life is all over for us. i know it sounds a little kooky, but bear with me. i don't mean 'get all morbid and melancholy', i mean imagine the time, whenever it is, and dream for a moment about where you'd like to 'be' as a person by then, and what you'd hope to have inspired in those you leave behind. imagining a confronting thing in an enlightening ...

the following five statements are amongst those i read/heard in the media this week. taken out of context this way, they represent questions all of their own. so, would you say the following statements are TRUE or FALSE, and why ? 1/ abortion should remain a womans' right 2/ war is wrong regardless of the circumstances 3/ prison is the best solution for the rehabilitation of career criminals 4/ any couple who are in love should have ...

this week, we do "the lesser of two evils". put yourself in the five situations below. none of them have a completely desirable outcome, as all of them involve personal compromise. as always, these are extremes , and in choosing one you forfeit the other. so, would you rather be ... 1/ extremely unattractive or exceptionally unintelligent ? 2/ totally blind or completely deaf ? 3/ unhappily in love or miserably lonely ? 4/ wildly...
